Agora, City of Arts & Sciences, Valencia

Another project from the legendary architect, Santiago Calatrava, the Agora (6,000 seat open air auditorium) is set within the City of Arts & Science complex.

Composed of steel, the Agora will reach a maximum height of 85m, with a moving roof, which can be opened or closed to let in, or block out, the sun. This mechanism is to be driven by using massive hydraulic arms.

Safety on a building project such as this is a complex matter, but one that Uniline has been able to provide a solution for in conjunction with its Spanish Distribution and Installation partners, Elytra and Vertice.

Uniline’s UniRail System, a favourite with Calatrava due its clean lines and uncompromising quality, was specified and supplied in a white powder coated finish to complement to the building. In all, some 2600 linear metres of safety rails are being installed on to the giant steel structure.

As well as providing a safety solution during the building phase, future objectives include allowing rope access for a variety of maintenance tasks. The safety system is invisible to those looking at the building, allowing the stunning architecture to take pride of place, whenever the structure is viewed.

This project clearly demonstrates Uniline’s close partnership with its partner/distribution network, with the end result being able to offer safety solutions to the vanguard of modern architecture.
