The requirement for access to inspect and maintain the solar panel system, as well as other elements of the roof and rain water system was not as simple as it at first appeared. The apartment building was constructed using a POD system, which meant that the roof construction could not be used to secure a traditional Roofsafe Cable work restraint solution to protect building maintenance workers from exposure to fall hazards.
Safe Access UK of Hampshire, one of Uniline’s Approved Integration Partner’s, contacted Uniline to find an alternative solution for their client. Selecting the UniRail System from their Multisafe product range, Uniline were able to offer Safe Access UK a comprehensive safety solution that met the customers budget.
The UniRail System was fixed to exposed structural steel elements, removing the need for roof penetrations and provided a comprehensive work restraint solution, including complete hands free attachment for maximum worker functionality.
The UniRail System, certified to EN795 the European Standard for Anchor Devices, ensured the client met their CDM obligations and complied with the Work at Height Regulations. The UniRail System provided a solution for short term predictable maintenance tasks and the cost of the solution was proportionate to the risks at the workplace.
