The only ocean safety system to offer complete hands-free security for safety at sea
UniRail (previously known as the Hadrian Safety Rail) is a rigid, extruded aluminium rail system developed for the marine market, ocean safety and pilot boats in particular. Functional yet good looking, the UniRail system provides continuous attachment via a four-wheel attachment carriage. It can be used both as a proactive restraining ocean safety system for multiple users or a reactive system to arrest a fall at sea.

The ocean safety product has been designed for easy installation, and uses anchorages, which are fixed to a vessel’s structure or its stanchions whilst enabling the rail to float. This allows for thermal expansion and contraction as the temperature changes throughout the different seasons. A change in gradient and direction in both axes of the rail extrusion presents no problem, with complete continuous access and attachment guaranteed at all times for complete ocean safety.
UniRail can easily be retrofitted to existing vessels or structures or can be designed in before construction. Uniline can work with marine architects to provide technical drawings and assistance from the earliest stages and offer a worldwide installation and maintenance service of ocean safety systems.
UniRail meets all necessary marine safety standards and codes of practice, is CE marked and has been engineered to have a ocean safety factor more than twice the minimum requirement of the European standard for safety anchors EN 795 Class D. It is as approved as a ocean fall arrest system for multiple operatives and, when used with a short lanyard enables worker restraint thereby preventing a man overboard situation whilst allowing total hands free operation for safety at sea.
Ocean Safety - UniRail for pilot cutters and similar craft
UniRail is particularly well suited for pilot cutters, harbour patrol vessels, police patrol craft and other similar vessels, covering all aspects of ocean safety.
Operating without any external guardrails means that the forces generated by acceleration, turning and sea motion are enough to catapult crew off the decks.
Pilot cutters are particularly vulnerable as they often operate with only a coxwain and one crew member to assist the pilot. Full two-handed assistance is required to safeguard the transfer of the pilot, but this cannot be achieved if the crew member is holding on with one hand or ejected off the deck whilst moving forward to the transfer station.
The UniRail marine safety rail attaches to each side of the wheelhouse and curves around the existing hand rails forward of the windscreen to form a horseshoe shape, offering the protection that is required to prevent a man overboard situation.
The UniRail ocean safety system allows full access to port and starboard sides without the need to unclip. It can be attached directly onto the superstructure and bolted through, or attached to the existing hand rail curved stubbs of the wheelhouse or forward vertical stanchions with omega clamps.
The harness scope is kept to a minimum and the rail is extended around the vessel in a horseshoe shape so that the person attached is unable to fall overboard and possibly drown.

No snag, hands-free safe movement around vessel for complete ocean safety- Non-stretch nature of system instils confidence in operator and ensyres safety at sea
the rail is configured to mirror the profile of the super structure of the vessel, so the operator can traverse the work area without having to unclip. - Allows the deck hand of a pilot boat to offer compete assistance to the pilot during boarding and landing operations, whilst maintaining total hands-free ocean safety.
- Purpose-designed to withstand the hostile marine environment including heated rail to reduce ice in extreme cold climates.
- Quality marine grade alloys ensure long life expectancy prolonged functionality and low cost of ownership.
- Fully satisfies the current Small Commercial Vessel (SCV) and Pilot Boat Code of Practice.
- Type-approved and CE marked conforming to PPE Standard EN 795 D.
